Call to Order  President Lyleen Collins called the meeting to order at 5:00 pm.

Review of Minutes   Minutes of the DSA PTSA Executive Board meeting of October 8, 2008 were reviewed.    Shirley Violand-Jones made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Earle Manhertz, and the motion carried unanimously by voice vote.

Treasurer’s Report   Shirley Violand-Jones reported the following:

Donation Fundraiser   Kateri Hoekstra reported that $5100 in donations have been received to date, not counting matching grants that have been submitted ($250-350).  A reminder announcement was placed on the Yahoo groups email announcement, and another will go on after November 20, 2008.

Membership   Board members volunteered to staff a membership table at upcoming “Oliver” performances this week (Thursday – Deborah Iden, Friday – Kateri Hoekstra, Saturday – Shirley Violand-Jones).

Media Center Grant  Trudi Abel reported on a federally funded library grant from the state library to build the libraries of public schools.  Typical budget $17-18K.  Grant would provide $10K.  Those who apply have to raise $2500 to be eligible.  Ms. Larsen would prefer to apply in February 2010 rather than 2009 because she believes she could write a stronger application.  The PTSA has been asked to consider a multi-year approach, setting aside money this year to add to next year’s budget in order to reach the goal of $2500.  Currently the budgeted Media Center grant is $600.  Profits from the Book Fair could apply, as well.  Ms. Larsen could request PTSA grant funds this coming January to be held into 2009-2010 for this purpose.

Middle School Quarterly Awards Ceremony  Wednesday, November 19, 2008, 8th grade - 9:30, 7th grade – 10:45, 6th grade -12:00 noon

Belk Fall Charity Days   The PTSA will not participate in the Belk Fall Charity event on November 15, 2008 due to lack of manpower for coupon sales.

Durham Council of PTAs Volunteer Award   John Kazinsky, Booster Club, Concession Stand, Darkroom, DSA Dads is another candidate from DSA.  Lyleen Collins will send around an email and Board Members can vote.

Staff Appreciation Report   Teresa McBennett submitted the following written report:

The meeting was adjourned by President Collins at 6:25 pm.

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at 5:30 pm in the Community Lounge.

Respectfully submitted by Jill Lowery, Secretary
